What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a dedicated Information Security Specialist to join our Classified Matter Protection & Control (CMPC) team to help implement federal security policy related to protection of classified at all Sandia sites. This includes analysis of multiple federal regulations, creating effective corporate policies/resources, developing and delivering training, providing day-to-day support to a large workforce, performing performance assurance related activities and much more. In this role you will apply critical thinking skills to synthesize disparate detailed data into useful information to develop documentation for procedures, reports, and presentations. Opportunities exist to team closely with entities throughout Sandia, remote sites, and the DOE/NNSA complex.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Analyze and interpret federal requirements for protection and control of classified information.
  • Develop programmatic plans, policies, procedures, forms, and briefing materials.
  • Gather data and conduct program data analysis.
  • Develop and deliver instructor-led and online training classes as well as specialized briefings to small and large audiences.
  • Perform assessments to ensure compliance with Sandia and federal requirements.
  • Partner with entities throughout Sandia and the DOE/NNSA complex to evolve requirements to a complex and high-tempo work environment.
  • Use project management and Lean Six Sigma tools to analyze, improve processes and support management with special studies/projects.
  • Partner with IT teams while serving as a product owner for local applications used to support classified operations that include identifying and addressing system bugs, presenting improved automation, and ensuring these resources are functioning appropriately.

*Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100%.

Salary Range:

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. (Associates plus 4 years, no degree plus 8 years).
  • Knowledge in lifecycle of classified information related federal policies to include creation, marking, protection, storage, movement/mail channels, destruction/disposition.
  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent required to start.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in relevant field.
  • Familiarity with Safeguards and Security (S&S) programs (e.g., Physical Security, Classification, Incidents of Security Concern, Security Awareness, Classified Mail Channels, Operations Security, Personnel Security).
  • Ability to exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for achieving results (e.g. strategy planning, decision-making models).
  • Ability to work with quickly evolving deliverables supporting mission customer needs.
  • Project management experienced (plan, implement, and complete multiple programs and projects).
  • Technical writing skills with a focus on the development and implementation of operating policies, processes and procedures that convey critical information to a diverse audience.
  • Proven ability to work independently on multiple concurrent activities to meet a variety of customer requirements with changing priorities and due dates.
  • Experience working with minimal direction, in a team-focused environment while exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) to diverse customer-base.
  • Experience evaluating compliance with requirements via assessments/audits.
  • Experience creating and delivering training classes and customer requested briefings.
  • Experience working with IT teams to create and maintain local databases/applications.

About Our Team:

The Classified Matter Protection & Control (CMPC), Operations Security (OPSEC) and Insider Threat teams are the primary points of contact to implement DOE O 471.6, Information Security, NNSA Supplemental Directive 417.6, Operations Security Program and DOE O 470.5, Insider Threat Program. These teams collaborate with federal and SNL points of contact to effectively establish policy, deploy training/briefings, and lead/support assurance related activities to ensure successful implementation of their respected program requirements

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
