Job Description
Department InformationOne of the first human genetics departments in the country, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at IU School of Medicine has a rich history of training geneticists and genetic counselors and providing genetic consultation and counseling services. Currently ranked 5th in the nation among Genetics Departments for NIH Funding, received in 2023, the department contributes to the understanding of numerous genetic conditions through the integration of basic research in genetic and genomic mechanisms, translational research in disease models, and clinical trials in rare and common genetic diseases.
Job Summary
Prepares samples (manual and robotic) for storage, distribution and/or shipment per biorepository SOPs
Tracks specimens and enters data for sample processing
Reviews sample reports and identifies specimens requiring additional handling and processing
Maintains accurate documentation of sample collection, processing, storage conditions, and chain of custody records.
Works with study PIs and study coordinators to develop laboratory flow diagrams to comply with study specifications
Validates new equipment, maintains and monitors repository-specific equipment.
Contributes to efficient lab workflow, process improvements and compliance with quality standards.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree (preferably in biology, chemistry, or biotechnology experience.)
Preferred
Master's degree (preferably in biology, chemistry, or biotechnology.)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
Some laboratory experience.
SKILLS
