Job DescriptionTennessee State University Office of Technology Services invites applications for the position of Network Administrator.
The Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the university’s network infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the reliability and security of network services for faculty, staff, and students at Tennessee State University. The Network Administrator will monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and implement upgrades to enhance system efficiency. This is a full-time, on-site position with a work schedule aligned with the University’s standard operating hours. The candidate must be available to work evenings, weekends, or an adjusted schedule as necessary to address emergency support services. This position will report on-campus in alignment with the university operating hours of M-F 8am-4:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, configure, and maintain network hardware including routers, switches, and firewalls.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues to ensure optimal service delivery.
Implement security protocols to safeguard network integrity and protect sensitive data.
Collaborate with other IT staff to plan and execute network upgrades and enhancements.
Manage IP address allocations, VLAN configurations, and network documentation.
Respond to and resolve network-related support tickets in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain documentation regarding network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve network services.
Assist in the setup and configuration of network infrastructure for campus events.
Build and maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance technical skills.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and wireless technologies.
Experience with network hardware and software, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks related to equipment setup.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in network administration or a related IT role.
Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or equivalent.
Knowledge of current trends and technologies in networking and IT security.
Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
Familiarity with ServiceNOW ticketing system.
Prior experience working within an academic institution or higher education environment.
