Food Service Worker – Position Summary
The Food Service Worker supports food preparation and service across all areas where food is produced on City of Hope property. This role assists with setting up and serving food from counters and steam tables, maintaining clean and sanitary workstations, and ensuring kitchen areas and equipment meet safety and regulatory standards. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in preparing hot and cold foods, following recipes, product directions, and proper storage and temperature guidelines.
  • Estimate food quantities and operate kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, season, and knead ingredients.
  • Brew coffee and tea; taste-test products when required.
  • Set up stations with entrées, soups, salads, breads, condiments, utensils, and other items.
  • Serve and replenish food from counters and steam tables, including conveyor-style service; break down stations after meal periods.
  • Interact with customers in serving, retail, and dining areas, assisting with opening containers or cutting food when requested.
  • Perform general stocking duties, maintain supply records, and restock beverage areas as needed.
  • Inspect, clean, and sanitize workstations and equipment in compliance with City of Hope and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils, including washing dishes by hand or machine, polishing silver, washing pots, cleaning tables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks, and sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors.
  • Use appropriate chemicals to clean equipment and ensure sanitary conditions; remove trash and garbage to designated areas.
  • Support tray line operations for food distribution.

Your qualifications should include:

Preferred Education: High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience: Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash-handling procedures preferred.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $21.85 - $26.23 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
