Laboratory Technician - Pezza Lab

Department: Cell Cycle & Cancer Biology
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Pezza Lab is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented summer Lab Technician to support ongoing research through the performance of routine laboratory procedures in accordance with standardized protocols. The successful candidate will receive general instructions for routine work and detailed guidance for new assignments, with regular supervision provided for most tasks. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative research environment and contribute to the lab's overall goals. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Performing routine laboratory procedures following established protocols
  • Receiving and following general instructions for day-to-day tasks and detailed instructions for new procedures
  • Reporting experimental results accurately and in a timely manner
  • Supporting the research team in achieving project milestones
  • Assisting with lab organization and maintenance
  • After appropriate training and time in the position, performing:
    • Western blotting
    • PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
    • Protein purification techniques

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a high school biological science course
  • Basic knowledge of routine technical and functional laboratory procedures
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with:
    • Internet software
    • Order processing systems
    • Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications
  • Reads and comprehends instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Performs simple mathematical computations
  • Applies common sense to carry out straightforward one- or two-step instructions
  • Organizes tasks and performs precise, accurate work when handling samples and chemicals

Work Hours
Typically, Monday through Friday, 8:30AM-5:00PM.
