City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature seventy-three inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. Join Our Surgical Team as a Physician Assistant!

Are you a skilled and driven Physician Assistant looking for an exciting opportunity in surgery? We are seeking dedicated Physician Assistants to join our innovative surgical team, working alongside top physicians to provide exceptional patient care.

In this role, you’ll be a key part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, assisting in surgeries, performing procedures, and managing both new and existing patients. As a successful candidate, you will: 

• Provide primary, secondary, and in some cases, tertiary care within scope of practice, licensure, and organizational policies.
• Services provided include, but are not limited to taking histories, conducting physical examinations, ordering, performing, and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and therapies and furnishing drugs and devices in a cost-efficient manner for specific conditions.
• Perform history and physical assessments of patients that are accurate, concise, relevant, and appropriate.
• Document the consultation and new patient note.
• Perform orders and instructions for radiation therapy simulation and appropriate image-guidance.
• Order and appropriate analyzes diagnostic tests including but not limited to laboratory and imaging evaluations.
• Order all test necessary in preparation for radiation therapy.
• Navigate the patient through the process of care for radiation therapy.
• You will see patients on treatment with the supervision of an attending physician and help answer questions and manage radiation specific toxicities.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care with modifications as needed and in coordination with the attending physician when appropriate.
• Perform routine procedures pertinent to the practice and as granted through the privilege process.
• You will see patients in follow-up after radiation therapy, manages side-effects, and provides survivorship care.
• During simple follow-up cases, the you may independently manage patients in follow-up including ordering follow-up imaging, providing medical care, and support to the patient including ordering pharmacological agents.
• Interpret imaging and communicates with attending physician regarding interval patient change.
• Prescribe and council patients on narcotic use safety.
• Demonstrate pharmacologic knowledge including indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions, and adverse effects of pharmacologic agents.
• Review treatment and therapy plans with patients and appropriate family members.
• Practice clinical care informed by evidence-based literature.
• Participate in radiation oncology specific clinical quality and research projects.
• Instruct and counsel patients in matters related to health care management including diet, medication and physical and mental health needs and refers to the appropriate specialists when appropriate.

Your qualifications should include:

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Master’s degree
• Three years as a Physician Assistant is preferred
• Unrestricted, Current Physician Assistant license
• Certified California Physician Assistant license
• Current DEA license required
• Current BLS certification from American Heart Association
• Current ACLS certification from American Heart Association
