What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Component, Science, Engineering, and Production (CSEP) Information Systems and Operational Technology Solutions department, org 7577, is seeking an experienced Information Technology/Computer Science professional to join our collaborative team responsible for providing Information Technology (IT), Operational Technology (OT), and Cyber Assurance solutions and services to Sandia’s complex discrete manufacturing and lot-based production center (org. 7500). This hands-on position is a great opportunity for an individual who enjoys implementing, supporting, upgrading, optimizing, and extending complex custom and COTS manufacturing systems. Furthermore, this position is ideal for an experienced technical professional that is seeking an opportunity to broaden their skills by collaborating with other technical staff to perform IT and OT related work across multiple domains including, but not limited to, connecting OT to specialized software; work automation; implementation of IIOT smart manufacturing and manufacturing execution system (MES) COTS software; working with Oracle ERP manufacturing SMEs; researching APIs to interface data; and collaborating with cyber assurance personnel. The successful candidate will enjoy leveraging their existing experience and learning new skills to modernize Sandia’s smart manufacturing capabilities that include maturing our digital thread.

On any given day, duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with others in the department and across the CIO organization to support the smart manufacturing IIOT and MES software implementation and support initiatives.
  • Take an active role in to ensure proper architecture for the center’s Operational Technology smart factory and modernization work. Duties include developing solutions to connect OT of varying types to specialized software for the purpose of extending device health and performance monitoring capabilities.
  • Develop and/or research existing methods to use APIs to interface data between the 55organization’s Oracle ERP, MES, and smart manufacturing systems.
  • Under the direction of the department’s technical lead, take a primary role in overseeing the departments custom applications portfolio, and automating tasks by reducing or eliminating manual processes and data entry.
  • Work with a team of IT/System Administrators to provide IT/OT support.
  • Develop data integration and messaging solutions to/from Sandia’s Oracle ERP system and others.
  • Assist in the governance and stewardship of center data.
  • Collaborate with cyber professionals to deliver secure solutions.
  • Develop and cultivate trust-based relationships with our corporate CIO partners and organizations internal and external to Sandia.
  • Participate in digital thread and model-based engineering initiatives.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work on-site in Albuquerque, NM.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, management information systems, computer engineering, or other relevant STEM field plus 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • At least two years of current, hands-on experience developing and supporting custom software (C# .NET and Java) for manufacturing organizations (e.g. gathering system requirements, developing architecture, configurations, problem-ticket research and resolution, interfacing with users, etc.).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle relational databases.
  • Active DOE Q-level (or DOD equivalent) security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, management information systems, computer engineering, or other relevant STEM
  • A passion for developing novel solutions that make a difference.
  • Experience with Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Ability and desire to deal with ambiguity and varied tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Sandia’s Cyber Security policies.
  • Familiarity with, or certification in, IT or quality Frameworks such as ITIL or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Software solution architecture, design, and implementation for commercial and custom systems.
  • Experience with Cloud and hosted infrastructure development including authentication, authorization technologies, Kubernetes, and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with IOT integration technologies such as OPC and MQTT.
  • Experience overseeing other’s work including mentoring and conflict resolution.
  • Two plus years’ experience with Sandia’s complex discrete production operation IT systems.
  • Organizational and policy knowledge of Sandia’s corporate IT teams.
  • Implementation and support of small to medium sized commercial software systems.

About Our Team:

The Component, Science, Engineering, and Production (CSEP), org. 7577, provides IT, OT, and cyber security assurance support and services to partners throughout Sandia’s component manufacturing center. The mission-focused work performed by the department is varied, challenging, interesting, and often visible to upper management. Department 7577's teams have deep knowledge and experience with Sandia’s manufacturing systems and processes, and we collaborate with colleagues across Sandia’s CIO and Cyber organizations to optimize solutions. The department’s teams consist of cyber assurance; oracle ERP manufacturing operational support and expertise; custom application development (C# .NET, Java); Microsoft business intelligence and DataMart services; and production tester system (PTS) Java application development and support.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
