The Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, with a main interest in hematological malignancies and bone marrow transplant (BMT). The successful candidate will develop a robust clinical practice in collaboration with Surgical and Radiation Oncologists in the Cancer Center's multidisciplinary tumor clinics. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will collaborate with basic and translational scientists and clinical investigators in developing a state-of-the-art research program. The medical oncology programs are well-rounded in solid tumor oncology, benign hematology, hematological malignancies, BMT, and a fellowship training program. The duties include, but are not limited to:
Teaching/Instruction -
  • Give didactic lectures to the residents / fellows
  • Teach residents/fellows in the outpatient clinic setting
  • Participate actively in the teaching activities in the Department of Medicine including mentoring and advising medical students, residents and fellows and Monday morning conferences.
  • Participate in the Department of Medicine, Cancer Service Line, Cancer Center educational conferences and activities

Research -
  • Participate in state-of-the-art Phase 11/111 clinical trials
  • Collect and analyze data and present at national conferences
  • Work closely with your Co-Leaders, with clinical and basic scientists and other Investigators in developing clinical trials that will lead to new discoveries in a robust clinical research portfolio for the Cancer Center
  • Develop and serve as principal investigator for investigator-initiated clinical trials in hematological malignancies
  • Further metrics of clinical and research success will jointly be developed with the Director of the Cancer or his designee on a yearly basis.

Patient Care -
  • Provide outpatient / inpatient care to hematological malignancies / BMT patients
  • Supervise Hematology/Oncology fellows, APPs in clinic and inpatient ward rotations
  • Attend 8 weeks of the year on the Bone Marrow Transplant service
  • Develop a robust outpatient clinical practice with four to six half day clinics per week with primary focus on hematological malignancies and BMT
  • Participate in faculty call schedule
  • Focus on specific disease entities in leukemia and bone marrow transplant.
  • Clinical activity measured by work RVUs as reported by the Clinical Practice Solutions Center. Your assigned clinical FTE that would yield an adjusted benchmark RVUs. You would be expected to reach 75% of that adjusted benchmark in year one, and 100% in year two.
  • Participate in other clinical activities of the division, the Department of Medicine, and the Georgia Cancer Center as necessary.


Required Qualifications
MD, DO or equivalent degree from an accredited institution. Candidates should be board-eligible in Medicine-Hematology/Oncology. Completed three-year residency in Internal Medicine. The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree in the form of original transcript. Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and people management skills.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
