Job Description

Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at BCM is seeking a Postdoc with a solid background in radiation and cancer biology. The candidate must have expertise in either cancer metabolism or cancer immunology and a strong desire to learn new concepts and techniques. The candidate also needs to have experience working with mouse models of cancer and a willingness to develop new models with the assistance of the principal investigator. The ideal candidate will join our team to utilize in vitro and in vivo techniques to understand radioresistance's mechanism(s), which ultimately help develop new strategies to overcome radiation resistance and improve clinical outcomes in patients with head and neck cancers.

Job Duties

  • Designs and performs experiments in gene editing, molecular pharmacology, molecular cloning, cell biology, and biochemistry.
  • Develops and utilizes technology for analyzing signal transduction in vitro and in vivo.
  • Develops and utilizes novel and existing mouse models of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
  • Performs PCR for genotyping mice and evaluate recombination of conditional alleles from genetically engineered mouse models.
  • Cares for laboratory mice, including breeding and providing supportive care.
  • Performs cytotoxicity and clonogenic assays in vitro to evaluate the effects of drugs and genetic modifications on the radiation sensitivity of cell lines.
  • Develops and optimizes radiation treatment plans for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma mouse models and normal tissue radiation toxicity experiments.
  • Organizes overall research plan and design, execute, and troubleshoot individual experiments.
  • Maintains an organized and complete laboratory notebook detailing all experiments in electronic format utilizing Lab Archives.
  • Meets with PI regularly and inform PI of all important positive and negative results.
  • Follows operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs to keep equipment operating.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by complying with regulations and following standards and procedures.
  • Preparesmanuscripts for scientific publication with PI supervision.
  • Assists with the preparation of grant applications.
  • Protects the organization's value by keeping research information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, networking and presenting at local, national, and international meetings, and reading current primary literature.
  • Provides a friendly working environment and be available to teach laboratory techniques and scientific methodology to research technicians and other trainees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.
