osting TextThe Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of South Dakota seeks a talented, organized, energetic, team member to fill the role of Senior Secretary to provide comprehensive program support for the chemistry department. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position.
Start date: as soon as possible
Duties and responsibilities:
This position will provide administrative support for the Chemistry department, in the areas of HR/payroll, finance, academic program support, and general office management, and will work closely with the Dean’s office, the USD Foundation, and Grants Accounting as well as regular contact with students, faculty, post-docs, and other support staff. Applicants with broad administrative and bookkeeping experience, and who enjoy working with people in an academic office environment, are encouraged to apply.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations
The Department of Chemistry offers Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees, as well as serving more than 600 undergraduates per year through the general education curriculum. The department is accredited by the American Chemical society, a periodic process with which this Program Assistant 1 position assists. The department boasts active faculty generating regular external funding through impressive grant activity, and maintains specialized labs/instruments/equipment/chemicals relevant to the current faculty research. The department offers a myriad of opportunities to enrich the student experience, including an active Chemistry Club student organization, several large-scale events per year, and regular seminars featuring guest speakers.
