Job Description
Job SummaryThe University of Utah has an opportunity for a Cyber Security Event Analyst to help support our Information Security and Compliance goals. The analyst will follow detailed operational process and procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate critical information security events and incidents. Located in Salt Lake City, in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of the State of Utah’s system of higher education and a member of the PAC-12 Conference. Salt Lake City combines the amenities of a major metropolitan area of more than one million people with the friendliness and ease of living of a small, Western city. University Information Technology, the central IT service provider for campus, reports to the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the University of Utah’s most critical common IT resources including the campus network; the Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration services; high performance and research computing; information security; teaching and learning technologies; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications. Responsibilities
• Monitoring the SIEM for new alerts; investigating and escalating to senior staff as necessary
• Providing feedback on efficacy of existing security rule sets
• Perform and document operational tasks and compliance checks as required
• Document event analysis and daily tasks in sufficient detail that the analysis process can be passed to other information security personnel
• Other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a computer related field and two years of experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effective communication skills are required.
Preferences
• Basic understanding of enterprise networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switch)
• Familiarity with:
o Coding and database languages
o Firewall management and intrusion detection systems
o Windows, UNIX, Linux, MacOS operating systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to break complicated technical concepts into terms a non-technical person can understand • Ability to work as part of a team
• Willingness for continued professional development
