The Georgia Cancer Center and the Department of Radiation Oncology, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor as a medical physicist. The applicant should be ABR (American Board of Radiology) certified or board eligible in Therapeutic Radiation Physics and hold at least a PhD degree in Medical Physics or related fields. The successful candidate will be expected to provide medical physics service in the daily clinical operation, participate in residents and students' education, and research in the Medical Physics division of the Department of Radiation Oncology. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
The distribution of effort and list of responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Patient Care (Clinical):
  • Provide clinical radiation medical physics services with respect to the precise planning and accurate treatment of the cancer patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Augusta University, Georgia Cancer Center with direct and effective communication with the Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Dosimetrists, Nurses, and Therapists.
  • Provides direct clinical support in reviewing treatment plans, weekly chart evaluations, machine performance and quality assurance (monthly and annual) measurements and documentation for all equipment utilized in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
  • Assist in implementing new technology while ensuring the safety and quality of the radiation technology in its therapeutic application to clinical service.
  • Participate in Georgia Cancer Center and the Department of Radiation Oncology research and clinical trials.
  • Serve on the Georgia Cancer Center, Cancer Service Line Scientific and Operational Committees as requested.
  • Further metrics of clinical success will be developed with the Director of Medical Physics and the Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology on a yearly basis.
  • Support other faculty in obtaining extramural funding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Teaching/Instructions:
  • Play a key role in the Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residency Program.
  • Provide education and training to the Medical Physics Residents, which includes clinical supervision, didactics, and other required aspects of the training program.
  • Participate in the Georgia Cancer Center and Department of Radiation Oncology teaching activities.
  • All scholarly, research and section/department activities will be reported annually on the Educator's Portfolio and Faculty Evaluation Forms.

Required Qualifications
PhD or equivalent in Medical Physics or related fields; ABR certified or board eligible in Therapeutic Radiation Physics
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Practice experience in daily clinical operation, teaching experience in Medical Physics Residency Program as well as experience in research collaboration with colleagues.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. The Department of Radiation Oncology provides state-of-the-art radiation therapy which consists of three Varian Linear Accelerators, Varian Trilogy, 23 iX and Edge, and one Radixact Accelerator from Accuray. Other equipment includes Philips large-bore 4D CTSimulator, Elekta-Nucletron HDR, Eclipse Treatment Planning System for Varian machines, and Precision Planning Systems for the Radixact machine, ARIA Record and Verify System, and MIM Maestro. Two True Beam Varian Accelerators to replace the current Trilogy and 23 iX machines are scheduled for installation beginning in the middle of 2023. AU Department of Radiation Oncology staffing consists of 7 Radiation Oncologists, 4 Medical Physicists, and 4 Medical Dosimetrists. Also, AU Department of Radiation Oncology operates a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Residency Program with two Residents.
