The Clinical Pharmacist II (CPII) is a licensed professional skilled in reviewing research protocols and extracting essential information to perform at the highest level of clinical practice. As part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the CPII provides direct care to patients enrolled in COH clinical trials. In the role of clinical investigational pharmacist, they manage workflows and processes for research patients and are responsible for implementing, documenting, and monitoring comprehensive medication management (CMM) and therapeutic care plans through direct interactions with patients and providers, aiming for positive patient-centered outcomes.

The CPII supervises technician staff, oversees investigational drug use processes, and assists leadership with the department's or unit's operational aspects. They ensure the optimal and compliant delivery of pharmaceutical care and services, especially regarding research protocols and investigational drug therapies. Additionally, they participate in performance improvement initiatives, either through direct involvement or by occasionally leading team efforts. They provide input on and are expected to meet budget, revenue, and expense targets. The pharmacist represents the research pharmacy across multiple disease teams and clinical committees/meetings as required. They actively engage in constructive problem-solving with peers, subordinates, and supervisors and facilitate collaborative relationships within and outside the pharmacy department.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Provides comprehensive medication management services, coordinating all clinical pharmacy functions for patients enrolled in clinical trials to help achieve compliant, safe and per-protocol use of investigational drugs.
  • Completes patient profile reviews and participates in huddles and meetings as an integrated member of the research team.
  • Application of established anti-neoplastic and immunomodulating medication use processes for investigational drugs.
  • Reviews investigational medication regimens for appropriateness, contraindications, and potential interactions.
  • Ensures that he or she provides services that are accurate, reliable, courteous, and timely.
  • Serves as subject matter and clinical expert as related to investigational drug use.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of formal and informal drug education and clinical consultation to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff in the form of in-services and continuing education programs within their area of practice.
  • Validates investigational drug builds within Epic.
  • Serves as a liaison between Pharmacy Service and research enterprise • Actively participates in organizational, regional and national patient safety initiatives as determined by COH strategic goals and mission.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Leadership team with management of drug shortages.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by pharmacy leadership.
  • Serves as an authority on drug information; usage, interactions, dosages, and compliance to medical staff, nursing staff, technicians and students. • Uses appropriate references to research drug information.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Graduate of ACPE-accredited Pharmacy School or School with ACPE accreditation pending
  • PGY1 and PGY2 residencies, or PGY1 plus two years of experience as a clinical pharmacist, or Five years of experience as a clinical pharmacist Current CA Pharmacist License
  • BLS certification
  • 3 years of experience working in an investigational drug service 2 years of experience working in an oncology setting Pharmacy Research, preferred

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $68.71 - $114.74 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
