Weekend IV Station (Diagnostic Radiology) positions

Moffitt Cancer Center’s Interventional Radiology Program specialists use the assistance of MRIs, CT scans, X-rays and ultrasounds to perform minimally invasive alternatives to traditional open surgery, often resulting in shorter recovery times and lower complication rates for our patients. Moffitt is a high-volume cancer center, giving our interventional radiology specialists an unparalleled level of experience with a wide range of different malignancies.

What do Moffitt’s interventional radiology specialists do?

Moffitt’s interventional radiology specialists focus on minimally invasive techniques to remove blood clots, feeding tubes, drainage tubes, stents, implanted fusion ports and tunneled venous lines. They are also highly experienced in performing a number of procedures, including:

  • Tumor embolization – tiny beads containing chemotherapy drugs or a radioisotope are injected directly into a tumor
  • Tumor ablation – tumor cells are removed from the body using extreme heat or extreme cold
  • Kyphoplasty – medical cement is injected into a vertebra in the spine that has been fractured due to tumor growth

Position Highlights:

  • The Registered Nurse delivers individualized quality nursing care to cancer patients and families in accordance with established hospital guidelines, nursing professional practice model, nursing care standards and policies and in accordance with ANA code of ethics and external regulatory agencies.
  • Registered Nurses embody the vision, mission, and philosophy of Moffitt Nursing and are committed to and accountable for personalized patient and family centered care and the concepts of Duffy's quality caring model/caring factors. These frameworks of care include: collaboration and mutual problem solving, dignity and human respect, encouraging manner, attentive reassurance, appreciation of unique meaning, healing environment, basic human needs, information sharing, caring for self, and affiliation needs.
  • Registered Nurses use the nursing process to effectively plan and manage quality patient care. Biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational and discharge planning needs are addressed in all steps of the nursing process. This is demonstrated in base-line and comparative documentation, entered in a timely manner, and with evidence of age-appropriate consideration when care is planned, delivered, and evaluated.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Work in a fast paced environment, providing specialized nursing skills for a variety of interventions. These comprise diagnostic procedures such as CT guided liver and lung biopsies and therapeutic interventions such as biliary catheter tube placement and radio-embolization for the treatment of metastatic disease.
  • 2 years of Interventional Radiology, Intensive Care, or Emergency nursing, critical thinking skills, and clinical skills of proficiency in IV starts and port access and moderate sedation.
  • Possess excellent assessment skills of troubleshooting potential problems associated with complex medical conditions as related to the planned procedure.
  • Ability to independently care for patients while recognizing critical care needs and possible complications intra procedure and post procedure, teaming with other members whenever necessary, are valued skills and part of radiology nursing.

Responsibilities:

  • Using  the nursing process to effectively plan and manage patient care, our nurses deliver individualized nursing care to patients in compliance with established hospital guidelines, nursing care standards and policies and in accordance with external regulatory agencies such as the Association for Radiologic Nurses and Diagnostic Imaging (ARIN). The radiology nurse works closely with physicians and radiology technologists in achieving safe care of our patients.
  • Identifies, documents, and provides patient education based on learning needs of the patient
  • Participates in Evidence based improvement activities related to area of practice
  • Participates in professional development based on the nursing professionals standards, regulatory requirements, and job expectations

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • BSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with at least two years of relevant experience or ASN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with 2 years of relevant experience and enrolled to complete BSN from an ACEN or CCNE within 3 years of hire
  • FL RN License
  • ACLS Certification preferred
