Job Description
The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Site Data System (SDS) Team is looking for an Assistant Computer Systems Engineer in support of a variety of hardware and operating systems, with a focus on Windows and Linux. In this role you will provide system administration, network management, and end user technical support throughout ARM. You will also work with members of partner organizations to solve unique problems and develop new solutions to advance atmospheric and climate research.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and maintain monthly security updates for both Windows and Linux systems
- Manage and maintain daily and weekly backups
- Assist SDS Team with maintenance, upgrades, and site development tasks
- Write and edit systems documents including Standard Operating Procedures and Security documents
- Train users in the use and implementation of SDS applications
- Develop skills and expertise to support ARM
- Travel to various ARM sites around the world up to 30% of the time to perform field work, domestically and internationally

Position Requirements
- Knowledge of virtualization, SAN, and server configuration, administration, and maintenance
- Knowledge of Windows user and server operating systems and hardware and associated software
- Knowledge of desktop and server computer hardware and software products
- Skill in maintaining computer network and interconnectivity hardware and software in a secure manner and keeping abreast of current technologies
- Knowledge of software installation script development products
- Knowledge of Linux operating system management and automation deployment
- Knowledge of networking concepts
- Skill at organizing project tasks within time constraints
- Ability to effectively collaborate with various teams
- Ability to skillfully communicate with various methods and audiences
- Ability to work well with others and facilitate conversation amongst a small group of professionals

- To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and must have the ability to obtain and maintain HSPD-12 Credentialing, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
- The applicant must obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport needed for travel
This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT1 or PT2) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. The minimum requirements of the two levels are as follows:
- PT1: Bachelor’s and 0+ years of experience, or equivalent.
- PT2: Bachelor’s and 2+ years of experience, or a Masters degree, or equivalent.
