Job Description
Argonne National Laboratory seeks applications from talented and highly-motivated individuals to join a team of finance business partners focused on providing budget proposals, financial analysis, planning, and forecasting support for organizations PSE directorate.
In this role you will provide proposal support and budget, financial analysis and coordinate activities across both direct and indirect organization as needed. You will also:
Understand/document financial processes and make improvements
Streamline financial reporting and do monthly budget vs actual analysis
Collaborate with all related parties including FMPS accounting, Contracting office, Purchase department, HR, and etc.
Develop recommended plans of actions and decisions based on this analysis.
Develop suggested financial models for the evaluation of various business constructs.
Present oral and written reports and presentations on financial and operational trends utilizing system/spreadsheets charts and graphs to illustrate financial results.
Determine cost of operations by analyzing standard costs and collecting operational data.
Collaborate with operations personnel to understand variances and trends.
Collaborate with research organization personnel on proposal development and funding.
Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
Increase productivity by recommending automated financial applications and coordinating information requirements.
Position Requirements
Experience performing financial analysis and cost control functions; research and synthesize data; identify trends, draw conclusions, and develop solutions; present and implement recommendations, and create follow up analysis.
Skills to develop financial modeling and forecasting scenarios for short and long-range planning and analyses.
Knowledge to recognize implications; provide guidance on financial policies, procedures and requirements.
Skills to develop regular and ad-hoc reports of financial data; identify and resolve unique issues with substantial significance.
Experience streamlining financial reporting and monthly budget vs actual analysis as well as understanding and documenting financial processes and making improvements.
Working knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, financial modeling, and accounting principles
Proficiency with financial modeling and Microsoft Excel like Macro and other functions.
Experience with Workday Financials ERP
Professional collaboration with all related parties including accounting, Contracting office, Purchase department, HR, and etc.
Strong problem-solving skills, be resourceful and be proactive on documenting and maintaining processes; work under minimal instructions and direction.
Strong organizational skills, ingenuity, creativity, and the ability to solve problems independently.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA3 or PA4) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:
PA3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4+ years of experience or equivalent.
PA4 Level: Bachelor’s and 6+ years of experience or equivalent.
