Job Description

Summary

The Cuddapah Lab at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a Research Technician II to grow their scientific experience with close mentorship. The laboratory is interested in understanding how neurological symptoms are modulated by sleep and circadian rhythms. Research Technician II predominantly uses Drosophila as a model system but are also interested in cell and mouse models. The lab seeks to leverage diverse perspectives to identify novel mechanisms that will eventually benefit children with neurological disorders.

Job Duties

  • Assists scientists and technicians by performing various investigative procedures and operates a variety of instruments and other scientific equipment.
  • Collects, records, organizes and verifies the accuracy of data.
  • Performs calculations and prepares charts, graphs and reports.
  • Uses software applications to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and test reports.
  • Configures and operates laboratory apparatus and instruments.
  • Reads and records instrument data.
  • Tabulates data.
  • Keeps laboratory records.
  • Orders chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies.
  • Participates in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
  • Maintains insects, plants, animals and/or bacterial and tissue cultures for experimental purposes.
  • Reads literature applicable to research areas.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Drosophila is highly desired
  • Experience with molecular biology, electrophysiology, in vivo imaging, optogenetics, coding, and/or omics approaches is desirable.
