Job Description

Moffitt McKinley Hospital features Outpatient surgical and diagnostic imaging programs complementing our current outpatient surgical practice at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Outpatient Center across the street and our inpatient and clinical operations on the Magnolia campus. Opening the surgical hospital directly impacts Moffitt’s ability to expand services at our Magnolia campus, alleviates space constraints for patient care and opens up more space for vital cancer research.

Together, we provide patients and families with a wide range of sophisticated services and comforting spaces in addition to those provided at the nearby founding campus.

Job Summary:

A Pharmacy Purchasing Agent is responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of medications and supplies within the pharmacy department, ensures appropriate turn over, limits medication and supply waste and balances purchasing as not to exceed budget requirements. Performs quarterly (and as required), in depth analysis of medication and supply usage to set maximum and minimum levels supporting healthy financial stewardship. Provide additional oversight of contract compliance with GPO. Continuously monitors for medication shortages and helps pharmacy leadership develop strategies for shortage mitigation. Serves as a liaison between the pharmacy and wholesaler/ manufacturer's representatives to ensure that the organization purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment that meet quality standards while minimizing costs. Additional duties include but are not limited to: receipt and review of daily medication and supply delivery, review and reconciliation of clinic medication/supply requests, tracking and submission of monthly interdepartmental billing to AP department, cycle counting of medications and supplies, daily maintenance of medication barcode and NDC integrity, perform daily review of recalls and expedient quarantine and document affected lots expediently, segregate and prepare expiring/recalled medications for return to manufacturer and/or reverse distributor, run and review reports daily in applicable inventory software systems, place medication and supply orders in a timely fashion, meet regularly with pharmacy leadership to present usage data, shortages and current states of department medication and supply inventory.  Additionally, serves as a functional expert and provides operational guidance to technician peers.

A Pharmacy Purchasing Agent at Moffitt Cancer Center must have pharmacy technician certification in addition to being licensed as a Registered Pharmacy Technician by Florida Board of Pharmacy. 

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience with Inventory control and purchasing 
  • Experience with Cerner systems
  • Experience with BD Logistics is preferred
