What Your Job Will Be Like:
Sandia National Laboratories is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center with a 70+ year history of delivering essential science and technology to resolve the nation’s most challenging security issues. The Advanced RF Systems Department is seeking a motivated digital signal processing (DSP) subject matter expert. This department is a high-performance team dedicated to designing, testing, and fielding real-time wideband RF systems for communications, radar, and electromagnetic warfare applications. We are focused on creating custom solutions to server our nation’s most critical RF-EW challenges.
We are seeking an R&D S&E, Microwave and Sensor Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be asked to design, implement, and optimize DSP algorithms using standard DSP design tools. The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong research and critical thinking skills, demonstrate a deep domain understanding of digital signal processing, and be able to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and written.
Job duties include:
- Perform independent and/or cooperative research and development
- Design DSP algorithms for communications, radar, and EW applications
- Implementation of DSP algorithms in MATLAB, C/C++, or Python
- Realization of DSP algorithms in FPGAs
- Defining hardware specifications
- Support/lead laboratory and field-testing
Salary Range:
$95,400 - $185,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of RF communication, Radar, or EW theory
- Proficiency with any one of the following tools:
- MATLAB,
- C/C++,
- Python,
- VHDL,
- GNU Radio
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance
- Ability to obtain SCI access that may require a polygraph test.
Qualifications We Desire:
Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or another related field
- More than 5-years of professional experience
- Experience programming GPUs, hardware acceleration, process parallelization
- Laboratory experience troubleshooting RF/digital hardware using logic analyzer, oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analyzer
- Experience with AI/ML for RF applications
- Ability to work effectively on both small and large teams
- Strong communications skills
- Active security clearance.
About Our Team:
The Advanced RF Systems Department focuses on development of RF systems for a wide variety of wireless communication, Radar, and EW missions. Our expertise includes the ability to design, develop, and produce (low-rate production) custom electronics for terrestrial, airborne, and spaceborne missions. We partner with our sponsors to understand their complete mission needs, rather than selling them on a specific product. When possible, we include exploitation of existing assets for novel capability and/or enhanced performance to provide cost-effective solutions to our sponsors. To best support our sponsor’s needs, we seek our individuals with a breadth of knowledge that goes beyond a single technical expertise.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO:
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
