What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about national security and dream of a career making a difference for the future of our country? Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for security? If so, you could be the leader we are seeking to join Sandia’s dynamic Security Operations and Emergency Management department.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide essential leadership for several functions at a National Laboratory including Security and Emergency Management. Your leadership will help solve difficult problems related to protection of classified matter, clearance and badge processing. Interactions include providing counsel and assistance to employees and management on government legislation, DOE security compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) policies and procedures; managing exempt and non-exempt staff, budget, space, equipment, and sensitive records; conducting employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, and disciplinary actions; providing guidance and mentorship to staff and program leads to ensure their success in meeting customer and program deliverables.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Ensure that customer needs are satisfied by coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, and establishing trust-based relationships
  • Apply organization knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations
  • Connect the work and expertise of the organization with potential beneficiaries, collaborators, and customers
  • Promote excellence by managing and maintaining budgets, structures, operational schedules, and staffing requirements
  • Conduct peer reviews, studies, and self-assessments to analyze program effectiveness, identify gaps, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Support and enable audit and assessment activities to determine the reliability and effectiveness of controls and risk mitigation efforts
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to business practices, processes, and control procedures
  • Ensure that individual access authorizations are processed and allowed to retain an access authorization only when their official duties require it
  • Provide oversight of all activities related to the programmatic area activities of the department

This position requires the ability to travel less than 10% of the time.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100%.

Salary Range:

$152,300 - $258,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus eight (8) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

  • Capable of interacting effectively with all levels of internal partners and external customers, including the ability to build trust, gain consensus, resolve conflicts, and manage effective working relationships
  • Two or more years of demonstrated leadership or managerial experience
  • Master’s a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, develop strategic direction and provide vision in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to gain consensus, develop and implement an action plan given multiple, conflicting requirements and constraints
  • Demonstrated awareness of and ability to work across Sandia's program and organizational structures
  • Ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values
  • Expertise and competencies appropriate to the organization
  • Effectively lead people and guide multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to mentor and lead the organization on department tasks and organizational goals and objects
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and classified matter
  • Knowledge of regulatory and Sandia requirements related to EM and Security

Expertise is offered through development and dissemination of critical guidance and key services that mitigate and assess risk to protect the members of the workforce, the site, community, environment, and national security. Our organization has responsibility for Personnel Security, Badging, Security Incident reporting (SIMP), and Sandia's National Security Missions. We are a team of security professionals who deliver security solutions and proactively address threats to ensure the success of our mission partners.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
