Job Description

Position Highlights:

  • To provide pastoral care and counseling to Catholic patients, family members and others as needed.
  • To provide religious ministry of word and sacrament to Catholic patients, their families and others as needed.
  • To work collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • To communicate accurately, clearly and in a timely manner, both verbally and in written materials.
  • To function as a team member of the Department of Chaplaincy Care.
  • To record daily work into the Pastoral Care Activity Reporting System (PCARS).
  • To perform duties of on-call after hours, on weekends and holidays when scheduled.

The Ideal Candidate

  • The ideal candidate will have the following:
    • One (1) or more units of CPE
    • Ordination as a Catholic Priest
    • Master’s Degree in Theology (Divinity)
    • Faculties with the Diocese of St. Petersburg
    • 2 or more years’ experience in a setting such as, but not limited to, hospital, hospice, long-term care facility; religious institution, center of worship

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Spiritual Assessment and counseling to Catholic patients, families and staff.
  • Provide the Sacrament of the Sick for Catholic patients as appropriate.
  • Support patients' rights by considering psychosocial, spiritual and cultural variables influencing perceptions of illness.
  • Document work clearly and accurately so that chaplain colleagues and other disciplines caring for the Catholic patients are aware of the services and sacraments that have been provided.
  • Visit Catholic patients on the list that is provided from the Patient Directory.
  • Respond to referrals when scheduled to be in-house.
  • Maintain all mandatory education, occupational health requirements, and any other required activity of all Moffitt employees.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Theology (Divinity)
  • Ordination as a Catholic Priest
  • Faculties with the Diocese of St. Petersburg
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a setting such as, but not limited to, hospital, hospice, long-term care facility; religious institution, center of worship
  • Evidence of understanding of diverse populations
