What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Systems Test Engineer to join the W80-4 electrical test team in 02332. This opening provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a scientific or engineering background to contribute to one of the highest priority programs at SNL.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead test planning and execution.
  • Work in an electrical test lab with hands-on experience.
  • Lead functional electrical testing to support system-level design qualification and critical program milestones.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate test anomalies.
  • Conduct technical reviews.
  • Guide and coordinate technologists performing electrical fabrication of cables and integrated test equipment.
  • Support system tester development through integration test activities and review of design upgrades.
  • Cross-train on other programs 02332 supports (i.e., Mk21, and W87-1).

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Minimal travel will be required for this position.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or relevant STEM field, plus one (1) year of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in stated field, plus five (5) years of experience; OR equivalent experience and/or accomplishments that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in above-stated relevant fields.
  • Experience in designing and testing complex electrical assemblies.
  • Experience with analog/digital circuit design and testing/debugging circuitry.
  • Experience with nuclear weapon design and qualification.
  • Familiar with laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, pulse generators, etc.
  • Experience writing test documentation (e.g., operating procedures, test plans, data needs packages, etc.).
  • Experience with National Instruments software; TestStand and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with MATLAB.

About Our Team:

The ND System Electrical Test Department (02332) is the premier electrical and functional testing organization at Sandia. Our team performs testing at the system-level to support Sandia’s major ND modernization programs. Additionally, our team is responsible for the design, development, and manufacture of development testers used for system-level functional testing. Our department conducts electrical and functional system-level testing on the W80-4, Mk21, and W87-1 programs. The department maintains and operates multiple laboratories across SNL and interacts extensively with the design, environmental testing, and qualification teams of major ND modernization programs.
