Job Summary
Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Director of Information Technology to provide overall vision, leadership, and management of all IT functions in support of instruction, research, outreach, and administrative needs! This includes planning, sourcing, and support of information technology as defined by the overall IT strategy of the University (Office of the CIO) and the unit. This position consults with senior leadership to understand needs that can be supported through technology, recommends appropriate technology strategies, oversees procurement and selection of information technology resources, and recommends policies and procedures for information technology and services.

Essential Functions
Works with senior leadership of the CVM to understand instruction, research, outreach, and administrative needs that can be supported through information technology and services and prepares written proposals for significant initiatives.
Maintains high level of service quality for end users, support for student own devices while on CVM campus, information technology, monitors performance against standards or service level agreements, and initiates corrective action with internal and external service providers when appropriate.
Responsible to establish, maintain, and document cybersecurity security controls for all IT systems and data within the college and adhere to required research security requirements and Auburn University cybersecurity policies and standards.
Recommends or manages budgets and oversees procurement and selection of information technology resources ensuring compliance with University IT standards.
Collaborates with the AU Office of Information Technology to leverage central services as appropriate to benefit the CVM.
Directs technology development, working with IT architectures, hardware and software platforms, networking, system administration, information security, and specialized applications and web technologies. Ensures compliance with University IT policies and procedures.
Directs IT projects ensuring priorities, planning, documentation and implementation aligns with IT strategic goals, policies and procedures.
Recommends or establish policies and procedures for information technology and services within the unit, covering project management, unit-level procurement and issue tracking.
Supervise, develop and mentor IT staff of 12 to 18 employees, primarily full-time positions.
Works to create depth in leadership, management and technical skills. Evaluates managers and assists and reviews managers’ evaluation of team members, makes recommendations, and reviews subordinate’s recommendations for promotions.
Complies with all University IT policies and procedures. Establishes and administers unit standards, policies, procedures and methodologies for performing tasks.
Reviews policies and procedures subordinates have established for their areas ensuring compliance and overarching IT policies.
Provides or coordinates on-call support for designated systems or services.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience in one or more IT specialties to include infrastructure operations and planning, academic & research computing support, or IT service support. Experience should include 5 or more years in IT management (direct supervision of full-time employees), project planning and the budgeting process; experience developing support strategies for IT services to users in small to mid-sized units.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of information technology principles and applications, computer system management methodologies, information security principles, and new technologies.
Knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and company hardware systems.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resources allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Strong knowledge of project management principles.
Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Minimum Technology Skills
Knowledge of information technology principles and applications, computer system management methodologies, information security principles, and new technologies.
Knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and company hardware systems.

This position will provide IT support to all departments that report to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, therefore experience directing and supporting the following business systems or similar are desired:

Enterprise hospital and laboratory management platforms (VetView/PACS),
Data science and data analytics software (SAS/JMP/SPSS),
Server infrastructure (Linux/Microsoft),
IT CVM service desk (SolarWinds WHD),
Virtual desktop and server computing environments (VMWare), and cloud technologies (Azure/AWS),
Help Desk support for technology within the CVM, including support for the educational process and emergency support for students owned devices during educational events, including but not limited to remote learning, log-in issue to various CVM platforms, and providing loaner laptop in emergency situations.
