Job Description

Summary

A Research Technician is needed to conduct basic experiments in support of studies in human genetics and mitochondrial biology. Our lab specifically studies conditions associated with mitochondrial dysfunction such as cancer, diabetes and neurodegeneration.

Job Duties

  • Operates a variety of instruments and perform experimental techniques such as fluorescence microscopy, Western blotting, DNA cloning, vector construction, and PCR. 
  • Documents findings from experiments, summarize, and present to PI.
  • Assists with manuscript preparation.
  • Conducts literature searches related to the pathology of mitochondrial respiratory chain disorders. Summarize search results and present in weekly lab meeting.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data using the cDNA library.
  • Maintains supply stock and order additional supplies as needed. 
  • Oversees maintenance of all lab equipment, including maintenance contracts and repair services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience Required: None Required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with mitochondrial biology.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy, DNA cloning, vector construction, and PCR preferred.
