Job Description Summary

The Research Specialist will be responsible for the analysis of equine samples in a large scale, high-throughput, A2LA-accredited analytical laboratory.

This position is located in West Chester, PA (Chester County) which is approximately 33 miles outside of Philadelphia. No public transportation is available to this location. You must have your own transportation.
Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyze Samples by mass spectrometry and ELISA using standard operating procedures and complete required reports.
Assist with Research
Assist with sample extraction
Assist with sample login and dumping
Assist with method validation and writing standard operating procedures
Additional duties will include the login, preparation, and/or analysis of forensic and research samples in a large scale, high-throughput, A2LA-accredited analytical laboratory using provided Standard Operating Procedures and under the oversight of managerial staff.

Analytical Chemist A will be responsible for the analysis of equine samples in a large scale, high-throughput, A2LA-accredited analytical laboratory. A specialist at this level is expected to have general knowledge of mass spectrometry and ELISA, however will spend time getting hands on experience with all of the methods used in the laboratory by rotating through the various tests. Differences in salary reflect differences in the number of types of tests each person is proficient in performing.

Analytical Chemist B is responsible for the analysis of equine samples in a large scale, high-throughput, A2LA-accredited analytical laboratory. At this level the specialist can independently operate multiple types of mass spectrometers and has progressed to assisting with research projects, including reviewing the literature, designing experiments and conducting experiments with assistance from the Analytical Research and Forensics Coordinator, Forensics Project Manager, and Laboratory Director.

This position is contingent upon grant funding.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Penn Vet Equine Pharmacology Laboratory is seeking to employ an Analytical Chemist. Qualified individuals would preferably have a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and 1 to 2 years of experience with liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry and ELISA. Strict attention to detail and the ability to collaborate well with others is required.

Analytical Chemist A: Bachelor of Chemistry and 0-1 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Analytical Chemist B: Bachelor of Chemistry and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions:

Requires extensive safety training, Exposure to chemicals

Physical Effort: Typically sitting at a desk or table , occasional lifting 25-50 lbs., typically standing or walking , using tools requiring high dexterity.
