Salary Range: $34,739 - $46,984 

Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm 

Employment Duration: Full-time 

FLSA Status: Nonexempt 

Summary

The Medical Assistant II performs a variety of duties and provides quality patient care to the sick or injured or others requiring medical services.  The scope of services includes comprehensive healthcare for homeless men, women, and children. This position reports to the physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant on duty for clinical supervision and to the Lead MA and Director of Clinical Operations for administrative supervision.  Daily work hours may vary, with minimal evening or weekend hours.

Job Duties

  • Registers and checks in patients.
  • Verifies patient insurance eligibility.
  • Gathers data for reports and certifications including UDS and PCMH.
  • Collects and verifies encounter forms.
  • Scans documentation related to the clinical visit.
  • Answers phone calls.
  • Schedules patient appointments.
  • Supports clinical provider and care team to ensure coordinated care for patients
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, drawing blood and performs EKG's and POCT's.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for visit and patient questions and concerns.
  • Collects patient histories, collects information about patient’s current medications, and enters information into EMR.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Maintains patient and services rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: scan patient medical records; obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Takes an inventory of clinic supplies and informs assigned designee of ordering needs.
  • Sorts clinic mail and files patient medical records.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • Assists with patient examination and treatment.
  • Stocks patient exam rooms.
  • Helps to maintain a clean and organized clinic environment.
  • Adheres to clinic policies and procedures.
  • Answers telephones and schedules appointments.
  • Performs phlebotomy and CLIA waived testing, including running control tests for CLIA kits.


 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
