Position Summary

The Investigational Drug Services (IDS) Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (CPS) functions at the highest level of clinical practice and works independently to support the provision of pharmaceutical care services and the development and ongoing growth of the clinical research program. The individual will work through direct and indirect interaction with Pharmacy and Research leadership, external customers (Sponsors and their representatives), regulatory agencies, the research care team, study team and investigators. This CPS functions as a member of the COH multidisciplinary team working collaboratively with other stakeholders to establish advanced research support by providing professional guidance to staff within assigned service line and to promote expansion, regulatory compliance and quality to the COH research program. This individual will also act as a drug information resource across the COH Enterprise and will be responsible for education and standardized use of investigational medications in compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws as well as local and institutional procedures.

The CPS will guide as a pharmacy subject matter expert throughout a matrixed research enterprise to develop, implement, and maintain systems that support strategic clinical research initiatives. This role will also help with complex therapeutic, regulatory or logistical issues, acting as the liaisons between the Pharmacy and Research enterprises. The pharmacist will be the research pharmacy representation across disease teams and research committees/meetings as required. It is expected that the individual who holds this position can actively participate with peers, subordinates, administrators and supervisors in constructive problem solving, as well as providing continued education activities while supporting the professional growth of the departmental staff.

The Hybrid CIDS/IDSA (a Clinical Pharmacist II role) willhave oversight and maintenance of all COH investigational medications, including the ability to account for each dose of medication received, dispensed, disposed, transferred or returned to the pharmaceutical sponsor. The pharmacist is responsible for the operational support of IDS services, support of IDSA pharmacists, oversight of all IDS technician duties, understanding clinical trial design, adhering to Good Clinical Practice and compliance with local/state/federal requirements for investigational drugs. Primary Duties Responsibilities

• Undertake primary responsibility for investigational drug use and management for multiple disease team research portfolios.
• Application of established anti-neoplastic and immunomodulating medication use processes for investigational drugs.
• Collaboration with City of Hope Enterprise stakeholder teams as a pharmacy subject matter expert to supports strategic program goals for clinical research in accordance with accreditation/regulatory standards, institutional policy and best practices.

Education and Mentoring:

• Serves as subject matter and clinical expert as related to investigational drug management to health care providers and project teams.
• Actively participates in the education and development of pharmacists, pharmacy residents and pharmacy students.

• Obtains and maintains licenses and certificates required for job function and completes all assigned trainings in a timely manner.
• Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• Graduate of ACPE-accredited Pharmacy School
• Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY 1) and Hematology/Oncology Specialty Residency (PGY2), or
• Five years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in a research or hematology/oncology or other specialty settings with exposure to investigational studies, may substitute for the required residencies, or
• A PGY1 residency plus three years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in a research or hematology/oncology or other specialty setting with exposure to investigational studies may substitute for the required PGY2 residency.

Req. Certification/Licensure:

• Current CA Pharmacist License or to obtain license within 90 days of job entry.
• BLS – American Heart Association or obtain within 3 months of hire date.

Preferred Education:

• Pharm D preferred
• Board Certification in Hematology/Oncology
• GCP/ICH Training, CCRP Certification, or equivalent

Preferred Experience:

• Two years of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting.
