Position Summary

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program Manager is responsible for supporting the DEI team with the DEI strategy. The DEI Program Manager will work collaboratively with key stakeholders, internal and external partners as well as community leaders to drive the DEI initiatives. Specifically, the program manager is responsible for supporting the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion leader on DEI initiatives regarding employee resource groups, mentoring initiatives and programs engaging our employees and staff with grassroots engagement. This position will also collaborate with the Director of Community Benefit on community events.   Additionally, the role will develop and operationalize DEI plans that enable progress on goals and partner to embed inclusion and diversity metrics and practices in all programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Implements deliverables to achieve the DEI strategy.
  • Coordinates with Marketing and Communications to implement Employee Resource Group programming.  Collaborates and engages Marketing and Communications to draft materials for flyers, mastheads, collateral, etc. to utilize/present that are appropriate for the event.
  • Partners to expand our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) membership, active participation and formation.
  • Partners with ERGs and Executive Sponsors to establish clear governance and goals that are tied to business impact and evaluated regularly.
  • Builds relationship with the external community organizations to engage broader community and build City of Hope’s reputation.  Identifies appropriate networking, mentoring, sponsorship programs representing diverse communities representing Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian, American Indian, LGBTQIA+, Native Hawaiian, People with Disabilities, etc.
  • Identifies and collaborates with the appropriate leaders, clinicians and researchers to participate, attend and prepare a presentation, in community events.  
  • Plans and coordinates health education workshops, classes and services for community engagement in coordination with Community Benefit department, DEI, Enterprise Growth & Innovation and ERGs (Employee Resource Groups). 
  • Develops and monitors the key performance metrics of the ERG and Community Benefit/community engagement Program(s).
  • Administrates pre-project activities, project implementation, performance and reporting, including adherence to project scope, financial targets, adherence to schedule and post-implementation review.  Track ERG KPIs and budget variance monthly and per event (whichever has highest frequency).
  • Researches and evaluates events with diversity, equity and inclusion, community benefit, health equity and wellness focus and putting together a recommended list of relevant events for participation and sponsorship/membership opportunities.  Ensure to attain an average number of events per month spread among the diverse communities in our service area.
  • Negotiates sponsorship packages that maximize the value for City of Hope’s involvement in an effort to leverage the exposure and educational opportunity for COH.
  • Collaborates with the other COH departments and groups that can strengthen our presence (HR; DEI; Population Sciences; Philanthropy; COE, ERGs), leverage educational opportunities to share our research and to better address the needs of the community.
  • Utilizes technology and best practices to develop new innovative learning programs that drive DEI awareness, understanding and action.
  • Plans events, including preparing budgets, sourcing vendors, preparing communications and marketing materials for employee resource group events.
  • Partners with Executive Director DEI and Talent Acquisition to establish clear governance regarding diversity recruitment tactics and goals that are tied to business impact and evaluated regularly
  • Partners with DEI leadership and Talent Management to establish clear governance, process, measurement and goals regarding coaching, mentoring and programs that are tied to business impact and evaluated regularly.
  • Assists in educating employees, leaders and partners on how to recognize, accommodate and appreciate individual differences, bridging ideas to relate to and support company-wide plans and initiatives.
  • Assists with implementing social media strategy for the DEI employee resource group opportunities.
  • Utilizes technology and best practices to develop new innovative mentoring programs that drive DEI engagement, development and action.
  • Leads external community facing initiatives and events for diverse populations with employee resource groups.  Represent City of Hope’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs at external facing events or programs and conferences.
  • Builds relationships and work cross-functionally to drive the successful and on-time completion of assigned projects or tasks.
  • Project manages and assist with the development of guidelines, policies and programs to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce for the organization.
  • Assists with incorporating diversity into all aspects of DEI operation, including the products or services offered and associated marketing campaigns.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in organizational development, behavioral sciences, human resources, diversity & inclusion, business management or education. 
    • Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in a professional setting position (may include internship experience), preferably in a healthcare or research environment.

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Five years + experience in an Diversity and Inclusion position (may include internship experience), preferably in a healthcare or research environment.
  • Human Resources Development, Organization Development or Industrial and/or Organizational Psychology
  • DDI Certification
  • Achieve Global Certification
