Job Description

Provide policy expertise and leadership to Department programs in areas related to national security and nonproliferation of WMD-related technologies, in particular international nuclear safeguards. Provide project implementation, research and analysis support for technical and policy nonproliferation projects, with a particular focus on international safeguards. Develop and lead innovative proposals for new nonproliferation related research and development. Support development of nonproliferation tools and resources. Support laboratory efforts to comply with treaty-based nonproliferation obligations. Assist in facilitating and coordinating trainings, meetings and projects virtually, on site at Argonne, or in foreign countries as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of U.S. and international nonproliferation, export control, nuclear safeguards, and/or counterproliferation finance policies and regimes.

  • Knowledge of National Nuclear Security Administration and/or Department of State programs and activities.

  • Knowledge and experience working in DOE National Laboratory complex.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to execute nonproliferation related research and development.

  • Experience managing efforts to comply with treaty-based reporting obligations

  • Experience organizing and leading training workshops or other capacity building engagements.

  • Demonstrated experience creating successful proposals related to nonproliferation.

  • Background in engineering, science, international relations, or foreign affairs. 

  • Experience coordinating and leading projects.

  • Proficiency in a WMD-related technical area (e.g., biology, chemistry, missile technology, or nuclear engineering) preferred.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to solve problems independently.

  • Oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity and experience with web applications, databases, and analytical tools.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

RD3: Bachelor's and 8+ years, Master's and 5+ years, and Doctorate and 4+years.

Successful applicants for this position must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, be able to successfully obtain a "Q" security clearance and pass a drug test prior to employment.
