Job Description

Summary

The Department of Medicine Live Answer Medical Triaging team is seeking a Medical Assistant with clinical knowledge providing the ability to support the clinical operation within the department at a clinical and telephone triaging capacity. This position is an outpatient position located at the McNair Campus in the Texas Medical Center with a general work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, be regarded as a team player, have strong and proven organizational skills, and have a personal drive to be their best. All members of our team should have a passion for providing exceptional patient centered care each day no matter the patient population they are working within and the ability to work within several different specialties as needed on a given day.

 

Must have the ability and willingness to "float" to various sections within the Department and help where needed with a variety of patient populations and healthcare teams. 

 

 

Job Duties

  • Performs medical phone triaging for patients calling for medical guidance from their health care team. 
  • Clearly documents all medical information to be communicated to or from the patient. 
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and safely preforming laboratory Point of Care Testing.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters medical information into the EMR system (EPIC). 
  • Properly notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.  
  • Assists with procedures as needed while working within the clinic, including but not limited to administering vaccines and/or medications under direction of a supervising provider. 
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Responds to routine patient phone calls and My Chart messages and route to either nurse or provider for assistance as needed. 
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks supplies for various department needs.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • No experience required.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
