Summary

Coordinates day to day activities of Palliative Care research protocols, which include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. Ensures data collection, documentation, organization and safety of research participants. The Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) is an interdisciplinary team comprised of Attending Physicians, Physicians in Training, a Nurse, Chaplain, Social Worker, Grief and Bereavement Specialist, Nurse Practioners, Research Coordinators and Administrators, who work together to provide Palliative Care services to patients and their families across the Texas Children's Institution. Pediatric Palliative Care provides an additional layer of psychosocial support for patients and families with chronic, complex or life threatening illnesses.

This position is a part time position for 18 months to assist with active Palliative Care studies including, Promoting Resilience in Stress Management (PRISM), PEDIQUEST, SHARE. Support for these studies include, data extraction, interventions with patients and families, surveying and collaborating with the patient care team to determine enrollment opportunities.

Job Purpose

Coordinates day to day activities of research protocols which include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. Ensures accurate data collection, documentation, organization and safety of research participants.

Job Duties

  • Participates in weekly Palliative Care team interdisciplinary rounds to review patients currently on service. Work closely with the Principle Investigator (PI) to determine eligibility and strategy for enrolling patients weekly.
  • Interviews, screens, and recruits patients/parents for study; explains process and procedures to educate participant regarding the research study.
  • Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database, typically RedCap.
  • Participates in study phone conferences weekly with other enrolling sites.
  • May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork related to the research study.
  • Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies.
  • Schedules research participant for follow-up appointments specific for the research protocol.
  • May correspond with patient/family throughout study.
  • Orders supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in Palliative Care education initiatives as a learner and instructor, when applicable.
  • May assist with collection of quality data related to patients on the Palliative Care Service.
  • Reports to the section quarterly on the state of Palliative Care research.
  • Maintains current CITI training.
  • Supports Research team and faculty with IRB submissions and maintenance.
  • Collaborates with the PI and department leadership to prepare a categorized budget and justification. Confirms accuracy and completeness of budgeted costs.
  • Collaborates with the PI to prepare IRB and any other regulatory submission documents as required by the protocol.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Statistics knowledge and experience.
  • EPIC EHR experience.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience with pediatrics research.
  • Experience with RedCap.
  • Bilingual - English and Spanish.
